The 2025 Mustang GTD has raised the bar for Ford’s performance vehicles. With 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 202 mph, this new model is officially the fastest and most powerful street-legal Mustang ever built.
The Mustang GTD’s incredible capabilities come from a combination of cutting-edge technology and engineering. Key elements include active aerodynamics, advanced carbon-ceramic brakes, and an inboard-rear suspension equipped with semi-active dampers. Ford is confident this vehicle will break new ground, aiming to complete a lap of the Nürburgring in under seven minutes.
World-Class Performance
“We’ve been laser-focused since day one to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang,” said Greg Goodall, Mustang GTD’s Chief Program Engineer. “The heart of GTD is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, packing more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.”
Ford’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine is a major improvement over previous models. This powerhouse benefits from a first-ever dry-sump oil system, which ensures continuous lubrication even during intense cornering. This system also boosts the maximum engine speed to 7,650 rpm, 100 rpm higher than its predecessor. The enhanced performance is further supported by a smaller supercharger pulley, revised intake and exhaust, and a standard titanium exhaust system.
Aerodynamic Precision
To reach a top speed of 202 mph, the Mustang GTD features a sophisticated Drag Reduction System (DRS). This system can adjust the rear wing’s angle and activate flaps under the front of the car to optimize airflow. The DRS fine-tunes the balance between minimizing drag for speed and maximizing downforce for traction, depending on driving conditions.
According to Goodall, “We’ve combined the work of talented engineers and designers, as well as an extremely capable driver, with Mustang GTD technology, power, and aerodynamics. We can’t wait to deliver on our sub-7-minute promise to GTD customers.”
Pushing Limits
The 2025 Mustang GTD isn’t just about raw power—it’s about precision engineering designed to deliver a world-class driving experience. With its groundbreaking combination of power, aerodynamics, and cutting-edge technology, this Mustang represents the pinnacle of Ford’s innovation.
